Timothy Hill
Brisbane Clinical Psychologist
I’m Tim, the human behind the therapy
My work is shaped by where I come from, who I am, and the communities I care deeply about. I grew up in the wonderfully diverse outer western suburbs of Melbourne, and that grounding has stayed with me. It taught me to show up with warmth, humility, and a genuine respect for people’s stories, cultures, and identities. I’m down-to-earth in the room, and yes, sometimes a bit of humour sneaks in when it helps us breathe through the hard stuff.
Before becoming a psychologist, I spent more than a decade as an accountant. That time gave me a real understanding of corporate life, the pressure, the politics, and the burnout. Now, I consider it a privilege to support people through the parts of life that feel overwhelming, confusing, or heavy. My pathway to becoming a Clinical Psychologist registered with AHPRA included eight years of study, research, and supervised practice, including a Masters in Clinical Psychology and published research.
A big part of my work is with gay men and the broader queer community. I understand the shared language, the humour, the shorthand, and the unspoken experiences that shape queer life, from diverse relationships to identity exploration to the subtle ways minority stress shows up in your body. You won’t have to translate yourself or explain the basics to me. I get it. I speak the same language. And I absolutely love working with my community to overcome the challenges that come with growing up queer in a world that hasn’t always been kind.
Intersectionality also matters deeply in my practice. Your sexuality or gender is only one part of your story. Your culture, race, faith, neurodivergence, disability, and lived experiences all shape how you move through the world. My job is to hold all of those layers with care and curiosity, and to help you build a life that honours every part of who you are.
I also understand the things many clients carry quietly: the impact of being “different,” the weight of expectations, the sting of rejection, the long shadow of bullying, and the resilience it takes to keep going.
And because therapy shouldn’t be all seriousness: I’m obsessed with dogs. You’ll see them in the artwork on my walls, and if you want to show me a photo of yours, I will never say no.
